Sport of H. Aoki from A. Malloy, 2001. Leaves are very thick, twisted and wavy. The point where the green color meets the white, the green is very drawn in. The green spots in the white section are very dark and bold. This is a high maintenance hosta. It will send up solid green shoots and wide green leaves with only a small amount of white. These shoots must be removed to keep the unique nature of this hosta. Lavender flowers in late July.
NEW FOR 2026
This new medium sized hosta from Don Rawson has the classic look of rich, deep green leaves, thick substance and alligator skin-like corrugation all aligned in perfect rows. Light lavender flowers provide the perfect contrast to the neat mound of foliage.
VERY LIMITED
H. Cinnamon Sticks seedling from Arthur Wrede, 2005. Leaves are a glossy apple green color. with very prominant veins. Petioles are red with the red color bleeding about half way up the leaf centre veins. The light green shiny color accentuates the red nicely. Dark purple flowers really stand out on red scapes in late summer.
NEW
Sport of Hosta Lemon Snap. Just like it's parent, this hosta has beautiful red petioles. The leaves are puckered, shiny, green in the centre with a yellow edge that turns more chartreuse in the summer. Gorgeous purple flowers on red scapes in mid to late summer.
ONLY HAVE A FEW AVAILABLE
This hosta is a streaked form of H. Winter Snow from Winterberry Farms / Jim Anderson, 2003. H. Winter Snow is a white edged sport of H. Sum and Substance. Leaves are very large, 13 inches wide by 18 inches long. Base color is a greenish yellow like Sum and Substance, with yellow and white streaks throughout. As with many streaked hostas, it is unstable and will send up many solid yellow leaves as well as stable colored leaves with yellow centres and a white edge as in H. Winter Snow. The stable shoots must be removed to keep them from taking over the streaky form of the hosta. As a result the plant rarely will reach the size of H. Winter Snow or H. Sum and Substance. A high maintenance collector hosta for sure but beautiful.
NEW FOR 2026, LIMITED
This hosta has reset the bar again since Hosta First Blush came onto the market a few years ago. Bloodline is a hybrid of a Tequila Sunrise seedling x First Blush. It has a deep burgundy red color across the entire leaf, almost looking brown. This color shows up as soon as the hosta comes up in spring and lasts most of the summer if given lots of sun. It blooms late in the summer with slightly fertile light purple flowers. It does bloom a few weeks earlier than First Blush so it could be used as a breeding plant. Fast growth rate. After reading up on the red pigment anthocyanin in this hosta I found it very interesting that it is used as cold weather protection and protection against sun damage. It is the same red pigment found in sedum and creeping charlie when they emerge. The amount of red may vary from year to year depending on the weather, your location and the location of the hosta.
NEW FOR 2026
This hosta is from a complex cross involving Hosta Rock Concert, H. Beer Belly Blues and H. Abiqua Drinking Gourd from Rod Kuenster. The blue-green leaves have a streaky creamy margin. The margins are rippled, and there are grey streaks that go from the margin into the centre of the leaf. Cupped and ruffled rounded leaves that are nicely displayed so that their white backs are clearly visible.
NEW FOR 2025
Fascinating new hosta from Bob Solberg, 2023, he has done it again- upped the anti. (48/49 Best x (Sun Shower x Designer Genes )) . This hosta starts out yellow then turns blue like a sunny day turning stormy. The broad leaves emerge bright yellow with a little white wax frosting. Purple fills the the wide petiole and extends up towards the middle of the leaf and fans out at the leaf base. In weeks the yellow starts to become a unique blue-green emulsion, more pronounced in shade. Known for years as 44B this hosta is the background of Bob's newest red petioled hostas. Its H. sieboldiana heritage is what gave the cupping and puckering to H. Ruby Earrings. Great for hybridizing but also a hosta you return to look at over and over again all season long.
NEW FOR 2025
Another new and fantastic hosta from Bob Solberg, 2024. Sibling of Hosta Ruby Earrings. This hosta is taller than Ruby Earrings, and is upright showing off the bright red petioles. The red also comes up into the top of the leaves. The red is sometimes difficult to see in some hostas, but with this one being upright, the red will scream at you. Cherry Cheesecake also has straight red flower scapes with red bracts and lavender flowers.
NEW FOR 2025
Beautiful medium sized intensely blue hosta from Bob Solberg and the Northern Illinois Hosta Society, 2022. (H. sieboldiana x an unnamed F3 seedling of One Man's Treasure). This is a 3rd generation seedling from Bob's "Longiana" line of blue hostas selected for its royal purple petioles and its deep blue color. In spring the slightly wavy, lightly cupped leaves have a thick wax coating that seems to reflect some of that purple color up into the leaves creating a richness of blue not seen in other hostas. It is a rugged hosta that will stand out in the shade garden.
VERY LIMITED, HAS NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR AWHILE
This mini hosta is a sport of H. Shiny Penny from Bob Solberg, 2002. It has bright shiny gold slightly rippled leaves with a bright shiny green margin. The gold is vivid in the spring time, changing to more chartreuse in the summer then slightly darker in late summer. Makes a very tight round clump. Dark lavender flowers in late summer.
NEW FOR 2025
Extremely ruffled leaves give this hosta the impression of dancing in the shade garden. This is a complex hybrid involving Niagara Falls, Neptune, Fulda, Designer Genes, Winfield Blue, Joy Ride, and Blue Mouse Ears from Hans Hansen, 2021. Leaf edges fold up to display ruffling that extends from the tip of the leaf down the length of the petiole. Leaves are glaucous blue with heavy rippling and wide creamy white margins. Near white flowers are held on proportionate scapes in mid-summer.
NEW
This cross is from a streaked sport of Niagara Falls and Empress Wu from Hans Hansen of Walters Gardens Inc. in 2019. A beautifully variegated large magestic hosta. Large ovate leaves have green centres and brightly contrasting yellow margins. The margins are heavily rippled and give the leaves a lightly wavy overall effect. White flowers appear above the foliage in midsummer. A showy specimen for the shade.
NEW
Echo the Sun is a bright yellow hosta with nicely rippled margins; comparable to a gold version of the blue 'Diamond Lake', but shares a similar wedge-shaped leaf of thick substance. Compared to 'Coast to Coast', 'Echo the Sun' has a smaller habit and a pronounced rippled leaf margin. Lavender flowers appear in midsummer.
NEW FOR 2025
Hybrid of Hosta Clearfork River Valley x Glass Slipper from D & M Beilstein, 2022. Powder blue leaves are extremely cupped and very rugose with prominent veining. The lobes at the base of the leaves overlap and almost wrap around the petioles. Near white flowers in mid-summer.
NEW FOR 2025
The massive size and leaves of Gigantosaurus will have your garden feeling like Jurassic Park. Gigantosaurus is a hybrid of Empress Wu streaked x Blueberry Muffin. This hosta will come roaring to life in early spring as one of the first hostas to emerge so situate it carefully to avoid spring frosts. Perhaps choose a more protected site where the soil stays cooler longer prolonging the emergence of plants. The thick heavily veined and corrugated leaves can be 17 inches long x 11 inches wide, and are bluish in spring with a wavy yellow margin. In summer the leaves are more green with creamy white margins. Pale lavender flowers appear just above the foliage in early summer.
NEW FOR 2025
Gold Elation is an Elatior seedling from Leslie Fraser, 2023. This new giant upright hosta has excellent yellow color and can tolerate some sun not showing any signs of burning. Gold Elation's parent plant Elatior is enormous in our garden. The leaf stalks are the as wide as rhubard, looking forward to seeing a gold version of Elatior.
NEW FOR 2025
Fantastic new hosta from Don Rawson, 2023. The leaves are intensely corrugated, chartreuse in spring turning to green in summer. The large irregular leaves are held out wide forming a low spreading mound that shows off the heavy corrugation. A real show stopper.
OUR OWN INTRODUCTION, ACTUAL DIVISIONS
Streaked sport of Abiqua Drinking Gourd. Registered by us, Kevin and Olga Elchuk, 2012. Intensely cupped blue corrugated leaves with green and yellow streaking. Near white flowers in July. Seeds fertile with many streaked seedlings resulting. Does send up solid blue divisions so you must cull them to keep the rest of the plant streaky. High maintenance hosta but great for hybridizing as it is highly fertile. We have many beautiful seedlings from Great Balls of Fire such as a recently registered one called Grand Duchess which has Great Balls of Fire as the pod parent (mother) and Empress Wu as the pollen parent (father).
NEW FOR 2025
New white margined sport of Hosta World Cup from Mark Zilis. Slightly smaller than its parent. If Hat Trick follows its parent World Cup (which is a seedling of Komodo Dragon x Super Bowl) then this plant should grow to be a very upright mound of cupped, thick substanced, heavily corrugated pale light green foliage turning bright brassy gold. Very pale purple flowers on 24 inch scapes in June to early July. Our World Cup takes alot of sun so we will see how this new sport does.
NEW
Hosta Hogwarts comes from [H. Clearfork River Valley x (Brutus x h. montana f. macrophylla)] , D. and M. Beilstein, 2022. The extremely thick dark green leaves are so heavily corrugated that they look like they are covered in warts. Light lavender flowers appear above the leaves in summer. Looking forward to seeing this hosta mature as we have always loved the heavy corrugation of its parent Clearfork River Valley.
NEW
H. Purple Haze x H. Riptide from Ronnie Van Keer of Belgium. Holar Purple Flash has bluish green leaves in the spring with a nice blush of purple coming up through the veins and into the leaves. As with all blue-green hostas that have a wax coating on the leaves, this wax wears off in the summer heat, leaving shiny green leaves with a bit of purple still showing in the veins. Lavender flowers in August.
NEW FOR 2026
[(Liberty Bell x Urajiro Hachijo ) x Ebony Spires ) x H. Astral Bliss] From hybridizing guru Don Dean comes another gem that illuminates the shade garden. Blue-green leaves contrast nicely with serrated yellow margins. Leaf margin is white by late summer. In the second year, the extreme corrugation will appear. The color and leaf characteristics on this hosta make it stand out among many other hostas in the garden. Lavender flowers in late summer.
NEW
New hosta from Dan Heims, 2023. The ruffled, olive green leaves are held on wine red petioles. The wine color comes up into the veins of the leaves and blushes into the leaves themselves. Some red blushing can be seen on the leaf edges.
NEW
This small hosta explodes into spring with bright yellow narrow leaves blushed with red. (( H. Swoosh x H. Raving Beauty ) x First Blush )). Doug Ruff, 2019. As with H. First Blush the red will fade with summers heat and the bright yellow darkens to a medium green by late summer. Give it spring sun to bring out its red blush color. Pale purple flowers in August on red scapes. Sets viable seed so this one may be good for hybridizing.
ONLY A FEW AVAILABLE
(H. Color Fantasy x H. Alabama Gold ) x H. Venetian Blue from Doug Beilstein 2013. Lance shaped blue leaves with creamy streaks throughout. Lavender flowers in August-September. Info says it has fertile seeds and gives streaky seedlings. It does have numerous solid blue divisions that come up so you need to remove them to keep the streaky section of the hosta going. The solid blue divisions are named Fake Lightning and they make nice hostas too. We have not done any hybridizing with this plant but I'm sure it would add a different shape to seedlings with the long lance shaped leaves.
NEW FOR 2025
This is a green centred sport of the beautiful hosta Key West from H. Hansen/ O. Petryszyn/ Walters Gardens 2021. Leaves are a medium green with a vivid gold margin. This is an amazingly beautiful creation from Hans Hansen, 2021, from a cross of a streaked Halcyon hybrid and Elatior. It is an upright hosta with cascading tri-colored foliage. Deep blue-green leaves have apple green jetting around creamy yellow centres. There is enough wax coating on the leaves to give it a soft dreamy painted look. Heavy veining and lightly ruffled edges just add to the beauty. Large light lavender flowers are held on upright proportionate scapes in early summer.

Peach Brandy continues the exiting new line of red petioled yellow hostas from Bob Solberg. Background is ((48/49 x Beet Salad) x Calm Before the Storm)) 2022. The 7 inch x 4 inch yellow heart shaped leaves are both folded and puckered but the most exiting feature is the piercing purple petiole that fills the base of the leaf and then travels half way or more up the centre leaf vein. In summer the leaves have a purple blush that bathes the plant in brandy hues. The purple petioles will remain vibrant even as the leaves melt in late fall as the clump goes dormant.
NEW FOR 2026

Parent of Hosta Holar Purple Flash. Very beautiful and unique hosta from Bill Janssen 2004. Leaves are blue with purple petioles but the purple extends up into the centre of the leaf in the veins creating a "purple haze' look. The purple in the leaves does fade in the summer although here in Ontario with a considerable amount of sun being given to the hostas in our gardens the purple has persisted part way into summer. Some years the purple is more predominant then other years depending on if spring is dryer and sunnier or cloudier and wetter.

This is one of our own introductions, (Kevin and Olga Elchuk) a seedling of Curly Fries from 2015. As a young plant the long narrow leaves are heavily rippled much like its parent Curly Fries. As the plant matures, the leaves widen out with not as many ripples. The leaf color starts out a nice blue-green color in spring but changes to green later in the season. Petioles are a nice reddish purple which is why we named this hosta Twizzler, just like the licorice candy we used to enjoy as kids. Flowers are lavender on tall 28 inch purple scapes. Seeds are viable.
